Cussing With Jesus

Today we turn to our friends at Radio Free Babylon for Coffee With Jesus' take on the third commandment. It opens with a recurring character, Carl, expressing something about modern culture that he doesn't like.

Jesus has a somewhat surprising take on the subject...of course.

Carl clarifies.

Then Jesus brings it home with the personal application he intended.

Prayssip

Giving thanks today to our friends at Coffee with Jesus for calling out the following all-too-common scenario.

Maybe you've been in a small group of Christians and someone has "felt led" to share something:

Of course, another believer needs to bear witness to the validity of the first statement:

Then, in an effort to redeem the conversation, you hear:

If only the comic strip's final panel would come true:

If Jesus Was a Rock Star

It's been a while since we've checked in with Radio Free Babylon's Web comic, Coffee with Jesus. This particular episode should be encouraging to us all.

We begin with Ann talking about her desire to know Jesus better...to experience Him more closely...and Jesus quotes Paul to express both empathy and encouragement.

It seems like she understands, but then Jesus comes in with a boffo finish.

Truth is...Jesus loves us even more than the metaphor can express. Whatever separation or isolation we feel in the here and now will be totally and completely reversed at the end of time. (And knowing He loves us like that should help dispel those feelings in the here and now!)

When You Don't Feel Like It

This isn't the first time this blog has quoted Radio Free Babylon's Coffee With Jesus, and it probably won't be the last. Sometimes they make me a little uncomfortable (which isn't always a bad thing), and sometimes the "comic" resonates to the point of shattering fine glass goblets.

This is one of those times.

We begin with a generic greeting...

...which is followed by a generic response...

...and then an awesome truth sweeps in and makes itself at home in our minds and (hopefully) our hearts.

Truth is...Feelings should always be the LAST things consulted when deciding what to believe, say, or do. Just make yourself available to Jesus, be real, and see where He takes it from there.

Imagine No Religion

I know, I know...everybody thinks John Lennon's song, Imagine, is so beautiful and peaceful. It's kind of become an anthem for inclusiveness and acceptance.

But have you ever paid attention to the lyric?

You've heard about Coffee With Jesus in this space before (HERE and HERE). Well, the folks at Radio Free Babylon took the time to notice Lennon's words and have them coming out of the appropriate character's mouth...followed by a fitting response from Jesus.

Then Satan just keeps pushing his point...

...until Jesus points out the irony in the whole thing.

Truth is...religion probably DOESN'T do all that much for world peace and love and brotherhood. But then, religion is only mankind's pursuit of God. Christianity, however, is the story of God's pursuit of mankind. A world full of Jesus followers whose allegiance is untarnished by man-made boundaries and anti-Biblical traditions would be a world worth imagining indeed.

Like I Was Saying...

Speaking of Bumper-Sticker Christianity, the fine, funny folks at Radio Free Babylon have done it again: taken a topic I could ramble on about and condensed it into four frames of comic genius.

Well, maybe not genius, but definitely in the 90th percentile of SAT scores.

Truth is...the character of Jesus in this strip probably sounds more like me than like the real Jesus, but I'm thinking the real Jesus gets the point and agrees.

Fall Asleep Praying

COFFEE WITH JESUS is a comic produced by the creative force known as Radio Free Babylon. (Fair warning: some of the content of RFB has PG-13 language...which kind of confuses me, but that's not the point of today's post, so let's drop the subject.) The strip features a rotating cast of people (and Satan) who have short conversations with a suit-wearing Jesus, while sipping from cups or mugs full of coffee.

It's always tricky trying to represent what Jesus might say or do in contemporary situations, and CWJ's Jesus is probably a bit more snarky and sarcastic than the Lord would actually be, but hey, it's a comic strip.

A recent strip is a good reminder of how God views us as His children...and the first half gives some great imagery that should help get rid of some needless feelings of guilt many of us probably share.

Truth is...Yahweh understands that "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
