A Life Worth Living

Facing the prospect of bringing a child into the world who is differently-abled from the majority of folks can be a scary thing. There are so many questions:
  • Will I be able to handle it?
  • How long will my child live?
  • What kind of financial burden is this going to be?

And then there's the question that a certain expectant mother asked of a Down Syndrome support group and the beyond-beautiful video answer that was given...

Truth is...nobody has a perfect life, but each life is precious.

Racial Shmacial

Comedian, Hari Kondabolu, has really nailed it to the wall with this snippet. Anything additional I can say can be filed under "Blah, blah, blah."

Truth is...the only race any of us are 100% members of is the human race. Celebrate!

The [Rob] Lowe-down on Being a Star

Rob Lowe isn't necessarily my first go-to person for good advice or universal truth, but there's a quote from his book, Stories I Only Tell My Friends: An Autobiography, that reminded me of something Jesus said.

After years of working with, or getting to know, actors like Jodie Foster, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Mike Myers, Jennifer Garner, Sally Field, George Clooney, and many others, I can tell you that stars are almost always the most gracious people on set. It's part of the job and they know it. You don't survive to become a star if you have a bad attitude.

In my twisted way of thinking, this seems to be a real-life example of the Golden Rule: "Do to others what you would have them do to you." (Matthew 7:12) And the good news is, it reaps benefits in the here and now.

Truth is...Jesus' "advice" is practical, authentic, and beneficial. We would all do well, whether we accept Him as the Son of God or not, to listen to - and live out - what He had to say.

Life Is Not A Rehearsal

I clicked on the link for the TED Talk, My Life As A One-Man Band, because Tommy Emmanuel's guitar prowess never ceases to thrill and amaze me. I decided to share it with you, the readers of Truth is..., because there is truth in what Tommy plays and in what Tommy says.

Truth is...it would be a glorious thing indeed for each of us to find such joy and fulfillment in answering a calling; pursuing a dream that will not be denied.
